At Amazon, what is the difference between a Program Manager and Technical Program Manager? It looks like the Technical one gets paid about 25% more but not sure what roles/responsibilities they do differently. Amazon
Also how technical a background does someone need for a Technical Program Manager role?

Do what's right for you. At the end of the day they can get another senior.
Friends wouldnt get pissed if you took care of you
I came from EY and trust me kpmg culture is much better. Also if you read fishbowl, not very many happy people from EY right now
Definitely take the job. No question. If I were the manager that you were leaving I'd kick your butt if you didn't go.
The entire point of Big 4 is to make money for partners. Literally there is no other real reason. If they valued the relationship they would give you $5k more and give you the position that EY is. If they don't value you for the tiny amount of $5k and don't give you the position you want them you are a moron to not leave because of a "relationship" because at that point you are the only one concerned about the relationship.
Cont. but he is also a friend.
If you consider someone a friend, you should look out for them and advise them to take the best option. He may be a little salty about it being a competitor, but at the end of the day you should anticipate his support. It's not like he's staying until partner himself, some people just leave earlier or later.
If he's a true friend he will understand. If he doesn't understand he's not a real friend.
No one can really care about competitors in the Big 4 can you? I mean let's be serious we are all cogs in the machine.
TS1: think it makes people feel like you didn't care about their relationship at your current firm, that you're just looking for an extra $5k, and that its kind of lame to flip between firms - we are all cogs, so unless your current firm is screwing you, why switch at all?
Which position at EY?
I am not talking about your relationship with your partner, I am talking about the relationships with people in the firm. If you hop between jobs often, people notice and invest less in you. I left PwC only because my director was pulled off and my manager went to advisory, and I didn't want to recur on a horrible engagement without my friends and advocates. I'm starting from fresh at my new job and that is always an uphill battle.
Are you my friend?
