Who is hiring?
I tend to overwork myself and it’s really taking a toll on my mental well-being. I want to learn a lot and prove myself to my superiors so that they recognize me/see value. Now my work has a sense of dread to it. I watched my parents be workaholics growing up, so it’s all I know. I’m also goal-oriented and driven, so achieving a lot scratches that itch for me. But, it’s making me want to quit cause I’m burned out and depressed….im not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Excuses are not cool and it sounds like she is stressing you out from the possibility of missing deadlines, so, extra uncool. I understand your frustration and I’d have a very direct and more transparent convo with her. If that doesn’t work personally I’d look for something new because upper management does not hear any sort of complaining from freelancers even if it’s 100% justified you are seen as difficult and they get enough from their staffers. However, to that point, you’re both freelancers. It is not unreasonable for someone to be missing an hour plus (every now & then)-that’s how long a meeting lasts and even if you think you should be in the same meetings, she may have others, or other opps she must take to secure her future jobs since this sounds short term. She’s either hustling or lazy. All in all this is her main gig it sounds and you need more trust and accountability. Also, I’ve seen this comment a lot about “simple” banner executions - i want to call out that artwork takes 4-5x the amount of time to execute than short form conceptual copy (observations over years in the industry from me & two former bosses & current CD copy partner). Banner ads APPEAR to be “simple”, it’s not the case, especially if there are changes (the simplest copy change), when there are multiple sizes each has to be redone/exported for consistency, more time if she’s doing her own art finalizations for release, uploading them, consistent name conventions that usually vary from art file names etc etc the Behind the scenes work No One Gets unless you are an AD. I just want to give perspective from the other side. Also, the conceptual aspect at times may fall more on copy, because, that’s the first form, and, to balance the workload or make tight timing. All in all. Transparency is key. On both ends. Good luck.
Can you talk to the recruiter who hired you both? This happened with a FL partner I had and it ended up that she got a full time job while on contract with us and changed her LinkedIn title without saying anything to us. The recruiter ended her contract that day. Maybe you can talk to the recruiter and they can do some digging or replace them.
