Started at a new firm 5 months ago and I still don’t have a full workload and because of that my billing sucks. I’ve reached out to my supervising attorney, 2 partners, and even looped in someone from admin just to see if she knew if anyone needs help. I specifically say things like “can I take some work off your hands? I need more billable work” and I get a few small things but still behind on my total billables. One of the partners talked to me about my billing but I just feel stuck. Cont’d
I’ve been at my BL firm for 5 months. Month 1 I billed a ton of hours and the partner wrote them all off. Month 2 was really slow. In Month 3, I realized that my state (TX) had changed some important civil procedure rules within the past year. I wrote an interoffice memo about the changes and sent it to everyone in my group. Then got permission to send it to everyone in Litigation in our three Texas offices. I have received so much work off of that one memo. Plus, it led to more opportunities. Now my billables have covered the month that I barely billed anything.
Is there anything else I can do? I like my colleagues and I like the work, but the billables just aren’t there.

What did they say about your billables? I lateraled 7 months ago and the work is slow. I spoke to the chair of my group and he said not to worry, it takes time to get fully integrated.
If all the people you’re asking for work can back up your story that you’re practically begging for more work, I don’t see how they can fault you if you’re already nickel and diming every .1 and .2 you can squeeze out.
I’d get concerned about hanging around if they still aren’t giving you work and keep harping on your billables something that isn’t your fault.

Have you talked to other associates? Taking work off of their plates is a good way to get work initially. Don't think that you shouldn't ask someone just because of their level. You're the new person.
I typically don’t give out work when I’m swamped unless I knew the person’s work product. I know it doesn’t help but just to give you a different perspective. Swamped = no time to train anyone else
If anyone needs work and has a Fla License, I have more than I can handle. I also do not care about billable hours, just work getting done.
I’d love to take some work off your hands. No FL license though 🥺
