“Well, in my current role there isn’t an opportunity for me to advance, and I’ve got the experience and have been acting in the role of a Director for a while, so I have been looking for a position where I can get that title advancement and learn and grow even more."

Just be direct. Your experience is far more telling than any title. Give specific examples of how you’ve taken the lead on specific projects.
“The people I work with have always valued my planning and leadership skills so much so that Ive taken on a director type role for the past X years. An example of this is blank Although my title is X I am more than qualified and ready to be a Director.”
