I agree but I have seen people with let's say English degrees be great consultants cause they can articulate themselves well and help write good white papers. So it really depends what you do it. A philosophy major might be a good deep thinker that's good at strategy work, or he can work at your local library haha. I would say art history is prob the worst major that's ever been offered though haha
I feel like it's a pendulum. Companies will be "Oooh, let's get liberal arts majors to be consultants, they know how to think big thoughts and see the big picture, and they can write, and and and..." Then a few years later, it's "Let's hire STEM majors to be consultants! They're not afraid of numbers or complexity, and they understand processes, and and and..." [I say this as an accounting major, which is neither liberal arts nor STEM.]
Student loans are a huge problem, but they're related to the bigger problem of runaway tuition increases. Many boomers could afford college tuition by working a summer job. Gen Z can barely afford textbooks with that. I don't know the solution, but more of the same isn't it.
I even feel this way with a law degree so I wouldn't sweat it
It’s behind a paywall - just curious so can you list out the majors?
Worst ones are what you'd expect. Liberal Arts, Theater/ Performing Arts, Philosophy, Religious Studies.
I completely agree. My degree has done me almost no good, except for being able to technically say I "have a degree." I never used any of the information I gained in college, and I don't really feel like it helped me as much as it held me back for so much of my life thanks to crippling student debt. If I have kids, I will never, ever encourage them to get a liberal arts degree.
You are not the first person to say this. I have several firends with the same degrees and they all say the same thing.
