At D I thought have to give 30 days. I just looked it up briefly as I’m newly pregnant. Normally I wouldn’t feel the need to wait so long but with all the layoffs I’m considering keeping my mouth shut until I have to notify.
Why would you wait to notify? I’d think you’d want as many protections on your side as possible.
I work in advertising so mine was a little different. I notified around 20w +/-
- Notified my boss, SVP, and the CCO, this was more so because we’re friends and I knew they would help me navigate HR.
- Then I notified HR and talked through (and negotiated!) my leave.
- Worked with my boss to find coverage, in my case it was bringing in a contractor and transferring some projects to other directors.
Your current engagement lead shouldn’t just roll you off - I’d raise that as a huge issue if they try.
As far as HR, you should be able to find all you need by searching the leaves team on dnet.
When I was in consulting, I notified HR, then my practice lead, then my counselor. In industry, I notified my boss, then HR.
Whatever you do, I wouldn’t take a lot of time between notifying HR and your boss, if you decide to go in that order.
