And what do you suggest should be done about this?

likeuplifting

I don’t think there is enough miseducation out there to the extent it should be the primary focus. I would think that proportionally lower wage blue collar jobs are more affected, especially in states that didn’t shut down (farmworkers in Florida). Likely compounded by the fact that these people typically live in extended families

Easy:Highlighting statistical differences between races. *we are here now.

Hard: separating correlation from causation and determining which factors really drive the statistical difference.

Extremely hard: Implementing effective programs to make long term change without significant adverse side effects.

likesmart

It's not a solution, for sure, but taking a pill sounds more actionable and practical than solving broad racial disparities in the next 3 years!

Who’s tired of these stats that always has to do with race? 🙋🏻‍♂️

like

EY3 - it’s inherent in the name of the organization. If you’re gonna be named Black Lives Matter then you shouldn’t just focus on police brutality but the broader issues such as gang violence, fatherlessness rates, bad policies that keep communities in poverty, etc. And yeah I watched BLM protests “pigs in a blanket fry em like bacon” firsthand after Ferguson back in 2015. I don’t need a fact check on that haha. But I would say that in the same way the media is at fault for escalating violence against police they are at fault for showing bad things about BLM and not all the good things that supporters are doing because it doesn’t generate as much interest as chaos. It’s sickening!

like

I KNEW that the first response would be to “educate the Blacks”.

“There is literally nothing you can say to change someone’s world view”

My god this is defeatist as it gets. What’s the point of trying then?

OP, these numbers are well known. The co-morbidity issues are tied to socio-economic and racial factors. Hard to eat well when you live in a food dessert, for example. Obesity and diabetes are tied to diet and health care.

like

No. AP, I think that is also a likely huge contributor. As is living in close quarters. As is working in non-service but close quarters jobs (meatpacking, farm work...)

There is no single driver.

I’m really interested in what OP thinks this data means.

And what?

like

This isn’t rocket science and I’m not sure why people are trying to make it racist.

Black people have a distrust of science from historical racial issues that causes a lot of people to not believe in the safety measures being communicated. They also have more jobs in industries that are required to work right now.

Latinos are generally working right now as well and generally have more people living together in the same household.

like

AP1 I was thinking the same thing. It seems like D4 thinks blacks are inferior, and don't have access to the internet or something.

I don’t understand the point? It’s not like white people are going out trying to infect minorities...someone help me out here

like

I think it's worth considering the possibility that reopening non essential businesses such as restaurants and the service economy too early puts employees at much greater risk than customers.

like

Do you think white people aren't getting tested?

#bmi

All I said was looting disproportionately affected poor block owned neighborhoods and businesses and it was sad because it’s hard for grocery stores already to open and now even more will be closed making it harder to eat well. Not sure what white people looting have to do with it, seems like an immature response a 10 year old would use

Also disagree that looting is an acceptable byproduct of protesting, that’s how we get looting for every protest, by not condemning it and encouraging peace

AMA- consulting/ corporate strategy/ M&A

Hey all! While I stay in quarantine to assess a potential COVID exposure, I figured I’d host an Ask Me Anything for the above topics/ career tracks.

I’m a 27 year old manager, who’s been in consulting for 4.5 years, directly out of college, in Accenture doing M&A strategy for Financial Services & Life Sciences. I’ll try to answer to the best of my ability (mostly everything except client details ofc).

I recently joined Visteon with a good package but I am really unhappy with the quality of work given to me. My peers are mostly clueless freshers from 3rd class colleges. I am starting to feel depressed and horrible. Upon communicating the same to my manager she says you should do what you are told to do, now she degrades me in team meetings.I am still on probation and planning to quit and run.But I am unsure if this will have bad consequences on my career. Can someone guide me here?

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️
