So sorry you are going through this. I know firsthand how tough it is and a strain it can put on a family. Throughout the years I’ve seen friends deal with addiction unfortunately some without success, but know of many that have now been clean for close to two decades.
What area are they in? There are many options and various help available these days.
Thank you for sharing. It’s been a bit of a shock and I’m still processing it. He’s been using a stimulant for most of his adult life and wants to stop. I’ve noticed his erratic behavior over the years but lately it’s been getting worse and he confessed. We’re in NYC.
I think a very good start would be Narcotics Anonymous.

Find a meeting tomorrow in their area and drive them to the meeting, a whole world can open up for them there.
I don’t have experience in actual treatment facilities (say for detoxing off opiates or meth) but I can vouch for NA meetings. And good luck....
I would also add, find an Al-Anon meeting for yourself. I found these helpful when dealing with the addiction of a family member. And remember, the addict needs to want to get clean before any program will work. It’s a lifelong process/commitment.
Have dealt with this in varying forms - there’s a wide spectrum of addiction / substance abuse issues and a corresponding wide spectrum of solutions. My best advice is to try to do your best to put aside any anger you may have towards them and make sure they know you are there to help them in any way they need. Best of luck
Best thing you can do for them is to be there, be their friend listen and not judge them. Try to go soft on the intervention component and involve them in the decision making process. Most importantly don’t try to appear to “fix “ them.
