Totally agree. Working Ascari Paralegal, I don't like being called or accept legal assistant. Everything you said I agree with
Unfortunately the salary at the start is below what we’re asked to do. However, I know several paralegals that are paid 90k+ after 8-10 years. Taking advantage of the overtime scheme is huge. If your office doesn’t offer overtime then you need to find one that does.
Making moves after 3-4 years is also beneficial to higher salary. Don’t think you owe anything to anyone.
No kidding. That's because law firms, in general and lawyers are greedy! I have seen it for so long! I cannot WAIT to retire from my career!
I think this is partly due to the low barrier to entry to this profession. It’s not a career like a registered nurse where you need licensure. Some states like CA regulates who can call themselves a paralegal, while other states the term is meaningless. A paralegal at Firm A can sometimes have vastly different duties and expectations than a paralegal at Firm B.
The firms paying higher wages for its paralegals will tend to attract a more educated, experienced, and competent workforce. The pay also varies on the geographic area, size of firm, and the type of law.
I agree. I’m a paralegal supervisor and honestly rn I would kill for $68k and I’ve only been doing it for 4 years.
I agree.
Correction**** as a paralegal.
Right and some of us are doing it all. I agree some of the positions are a slap in the face !
I agree. I have also experienced that there a lot of firms paying LAs more money than paras. I don’t know if it’s because of the OT potential but it stinks. We make these firms a LOT of money.
Yeah - they certainly want a lot for nothing.
