What gets me is that “kids can’t get sick, it’s ok to have them unmasked” combined with “I don’t want to be masked” results in more powerful variants. Delta herd immunity is up at 90% vs 70% for predecessors. That ups the risk of a highly transmissible variant that works really well in children. There’s an unknown countdown on what that variant will be, but I sure hope the vaccine works on it, or all the “unmask our kids” people will have a new depressing feather in their cap.

Recent IconRecent

The delta variant came from India. Most of the world is unvaccinated. Variants will evolve as long as portions of the globe are unvaccinated, regardless of what is happening with vaccines in the US. I agree that most people should get vaccinated, but unvaccinated Americans are not driving the new variants we are seeing.

You’re both right. Until we have 70% of 7.5 billion humans vaxxed, the speedy mutation of the virus will threaten us no matter what. But how we behave can significantly reduce transmission and variant iteration. Locally, what people do in their communities, states and nations matters a lot.

Besides, the people spreading variants from country to country are business and leisure travelers on planes and ships. If we were doing what we needed to do at home, temporary travel bans or better testing of travelers would get the infection and transmission rates down in a matter of days.

Is anyone who doesn’t get the vaccine considered antivax?
(Excluding those who can’t get it for medical reasons)

If you’re waiting for the FDA to give it a stamp of approval, I strongly suspect you have other motives and will continue to rationalize not taking it in some other way.

Hundreds of millions of people have taken the vaccine. Vanishingly few have side effects beyond fever symptoms for a day or two.

Dyslexia! After having our kindergartener son tested (privately) related to ADHD, we were told he may have dyslexia too (which would explain why he struggles so much with phonics but is amazing at sight words). I can’t change that. What’s the point of living when society treats ppl like me like I don’t matter. Maybe I should just take a bunch of sleeping pills so I don’t have to deal with life anymore.

I’m having a really hard time with my changing body. 13 weeks, I don’t have too many bad side effects of pregnancy or anything so I consider myself lucky (no nausea ever etc) but I’m depressed at work, my skin is completely broken out and showing new broken face capillaries, and I’m not showing a bump yet so I just feel fat and big. I don’t know where this “glow” is but I look in the mirror and literally am grappling with not recognizing myself :( it’s been impossible to find any clothes too.
