WK is the most overrated agency in the world, I will never understand the insane amount of hype around them
good to know 🫠☠️
fun thread
Just enjoy that people freak out about who gets to work at your agency. Nobody questions who we hire.

But why do you care? You’re on your own journey. Don’t worry about what other people do. If anything, feel good for them. It’s good karma. Trust me, you’ll be happier.
I’m definitely jealous! Jealous and baffled, but you’re right of course
You need luck sometimes. We are surrounded by people who fail upwards. That’s life.
I know someone like this too. She never disclosed to wk that she was fired from her last agency. Calls all her old jobs “toxic” as if she’s not the problem. Wk doesn’t do much homework on hires I guess.
Unless you’re a very public figure or possibly very senior, there’s really no way for anyone to know you were fired. Legally HR can only confirm someone’s employment dates. Creatives get hired on their portfolios and people skills. There’s no reason to bring up being fired, if it came up you could just say there was a disagreement about how to work and it would be true.
Even WK hires duds. We had a terrible creative here a few years ago with a viral social following on Twitter. She got fired here and snapped up there. But a new job don’t make a new personality baby and I take solace knowing they have to put up with her insufferable behavior.

Do they have an interesting side hustle or social presence?
I have a side hustle that's done quite well and can't get an email back. But I also haven't tried in a while. Maybe I should?
The worst CW I ever worked with got hired at Droga awhile back and it made no sense to any of us. Fast forward…they were fired and now work in pharma. Hacks won’t last long if they can’t prove their worth!
Unless they make for a good pr headline. Then they tend to stick around a while.

Don't let it eat you up. There is so much more to life than hollow professional achievements.
Appreciate the reminder
So… Wieden is hiring?
erm, maybe WAS hiring 🥹
I know those ppl in W+K.
One thing I know is that they will not last long in there. I’ve seen it happening a lot.
Tbh, what level is this person at? Many agencies hire juniors and mid levels for their potential, how interesting their thinking is, how engaging they are in conversation, whether they fit really well with a specific partner, more than their actual output at the time
I got hired at Droga as a midlevel with practically no good work in my book, but had some nice convos with the CCOs and had a reference from a friend.
just because someone hasn’t done something great YET (in your specific opinion) doesn’t mean they never will. people grow and change with their environments
it’d be much more surprising for a hack ECD or CD to be hired at Wieden
Don’t want to get specific about who this person is with demographics, but nope, no side hustles or significant social presence.
They have a pretty interestingly designed portfolio (that I half assumed they didn’t make themselves), but the actual work in the portfolio is very lackluster.
The only explanation that makes any sense to me at all is that they know someone who got them in. Very curious about how things are going to go for them there.
Don’t know what idealized world this thread is living in where in 2022, demographics isn’t playing a role in recruiting.
Did they get hired by bodega or to be a traditional creative?
Good question, I’m not sure.
Stupid people get hired by good agencies all the time. It’s frustrating, but it happens.
Lol someone got fired from my old agency which has absolutely not a great reputation if you ask on fishbowl and then landed on her feet at WK. its all about the people, can be great people at any agency

W+K is human too. They make mistakes In hires. They even make a bad ad every so often.
The two become increasingly related over time
Could it be your perspective? Maybe what you think is bad is actually great??
Many people here are saying the same thing and it’s probably the same person
this post gives me hope
I see this all the time… and then they never take “previously at w+k” from their social bios for the rest of their days
