No tax implications in a 401k. You can do either. You can sell what you have and buy something else or you can keep what you have and have new contributions go to something else
We have 3 options and can pick:
- future contributions only
- past and future contributions
- quarterly rebalancing across funds to our selection for last and future contributions (e.g., fund a grows 10%, fund b at 15% but are meant to be 50/50. At quarter they rebalance to that even though fund b was doing better)
Call fidelity to rebalance your entire 401k for past and future contributions. I did the same recently. They’re great to work with
Calling is pretty easy. It is very easy to do online also
On fidelity portal you have a link to rebalance, I have done it multiple times and it only takes a few minutes.
