Bend Oregon. Burlington Vermont. Both underrated but great for outdoors
Rising Star
I like New Hampshire. Would be great to live near lake winnipesaukee. No income tax, no sales tax, outdoor activities. You aren’t going to live on the lake at $120K but you could get near it.
Anywhere in TX. Its very important to save and invest early and life is cheap (cheaper?) in TX compared to a whole host of states. Plus the big cities in TX have a lot to offer in terms of professional opportunities across a number of industries. Whether through consulting or directly as an employee. And most of the bigger cities are plenty diverse too.
Single @ 25, NYC is the place to be
Agreed. Especially if you’re a dude.
Chicago in my 20s is heaven (minus winter blues). Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta, NYC, Dallas all good options
If you have a significant other, LA metro area is my choice, but if single might be hard since it’s not a centralized metro area
NH or VT!!
Honestly I love the white mountains. Would love up in North Conway and just hike the presidentials all day
If you can truly live anywhere, don’t live in one place and live in multiple places (3-6 month leases). Between Airbnb and other temp lease apps, might as well utilize them and explore what makes you the happiest
Boulder is expensive
Austin, Atlanta, Chicago
Denver, Phoenix, Atlanta, or Tampa. Great cities for younger people where your money will get you a lot more.
Yeah. Downtown Denver rents are really cheap right now as long as you don’t mind the surging homeless population that has set up permanent residence in all public spaces and all the restaurants and bars being boarded up and closed due to COVID and the BLM riots.
It totally depends on what you are into. If you are into bars, clubs, and generally being an urbanite, then chicago/Boston/nyc/etc may make sense. If you hate the cold, Miami or san Diego . If you want to live somewhere with accessible nature, then st. George, flagstaff, moab, durango could all be good options. Some places like boulder offer a mix of these.
If I never needed to travel and I was remote, I'd do moab
What are your interests? Hard to recommend anything without a little more detail
Frankly don’t have any. Hoping to discover some — part of the rationale for quitting consulting.
Austin
What do you like to do?
Boise. More affordable and so much access to amazing outdoor activities.
Agree that Boise is fantastic but move there after you've found a partner
I def wouldn't do NYC or LA with that comp. You'd be what we call "house broke".
If it matters to you, Austin's diversity is lacking but there are lots of great living options in TX. Major cities in FL, GA, and VA are also good options.
You may want to consider somewhere with no status taxes. I love keeping more money in my hand.
Not true for NYC. You can live pretty darn well on 110-120K. Sure, you arent renting a 1-bed in the West Village, but can do just about anything on that salary
I would do Asheville NC but I love to mountain bike is why and their food/brewery scene is good. Mountain biking is also why I would try Bentonville Arkansas.
Montana, Wyoming and steamboat springs make up the majority of my Zillow searches when I apply to a remote job
+1 vote for Austin! I moved here not too long ago and loving it. Especially once pandemic dies down, there’s a lot to do and very affordable (and no income tax)
Sounds like a very personal question depending on where your family & friends are and what kind of hobbies you have.
Boulder gets old real fast. And at that income NY and LA felt like too much of a slog for me (it’s def enough money for them, but depending on the lifestyle you want is really easy to feel like it’s not enough). If I could move anywhere, I’d head North Carolina for ease of life/cost of living/plenty of fun. Or Chicago if I still wanted city vibe.
