How do you handle handoff/transition before going on maternity leave? I will be going on maternity leave in 3 months and need to put together a transition plan so that someone can take care of my work while I am out. I want to make sure nothing falls through the crack but at the same time don’t want to train someone to do 100% of my job - that would make my role redundant if someone can just take over right? Plus the company is going through restructuring now too. How would you handle this?

Always wanted to adopt a puppy and this time seems perfect as I can be home all day for months to give the puppy the attention it needs in its initial months. I can’t decide on what puppy to get. Live in a hot climate area and own a big house with a decent size backyard. I am wanting to adopt either Labrador, golden retriever, Pomsky husky or a German shepherd. Naive question: How many yearly billable hours are reasonable for a good balance of work and home. I have a young child and don't want to miss out on important moments. I had one firm state that their yearly quota is 1900 hours and I don't have a frame of reference as to whether this is reasonable or if it means 12 hour days.
