[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

No sick days at all? What about working from home if you need to look after sick kids?
Possibly. They sensed my hesitation and offered freelance to start so I can feel it out. My kiddo is 4 so she can go to holiday camps when school is closed,, thank goodness.
I think unlimited sick says or at the least flexible wfh policy is crucial for days when LO is not feeling too great and you need to be home with them or go to the docs. Or pick them up from day care.
I’m in NYC and the job is in-house not agency. Oh, and they are NOT negotiable on it. Everyone gets the same company wide.
So PTO isn’t negotiable... but what’s the actual job and salary like?
Salary is a little less than what i was aiming for, but an improvement. The job itself feels a bit like a step back, but they gave me a director title which is a good sign. It’s not a dream job or anything i can’t walk away from. Just trying to assess if PTO is the deal breaker. I’m taking to other places that offer more - but no offer from them yet.
How’s the working from home policy? Work life balance?
Hours are 9-6.
Isn’t the idea that the PTO can be used for whatever?
I think it’s at least a little light. Usually I’ve seen 2 weeks vaca (normal) plus 2 weeks sick/personal days.
It’s not terrible though. I would be more concerned about a lack of flexibility to WFH when you have a sick kid, or the plumber is coming out, etc.
I’m only ok with PTO + sick being combined if you have unlimited days or the number is above average. The worst I’ve seen was 10 PTO/sick + 10 “floating” holiday days. It sounds like you’d be at like 30-32 days holidays included? Not terrible not great. I’d ask them to define their remote work policy and also ask if the culture is such that remote work is ok/supported. If the pay & benefits & role added up it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.
This for me, too.
I don’t think this is that terrible.
Thanks all - other places I’m taking to have way more generous time off policies, so I’m just trying to gauge if i’ve been spoiled lately/this is a deal breaker. They sensed my hesitation on this point and offered freelance to start, which helps. 💰
