Omg YES. I had a kid once throw an entire display of socks while the parent just browsed jeans like it was spa day. I’ve pulled out my phone to show Bluey clips mid-shift. We deserve a whole extra paycheck for the free childcare we provide.

You’re a real MVP pulling out Bluey, should definitely count as overtime pay!
Well, that was very nice of you. When I first started reading your post, I thought you meant the mother was throwing a fit which is way funnier but I realize what you’re talking about. On one hand, I hate when parents ignore their kids, but on the other hand, I kind of get it. Kids are rough.
Chief
Totally get you. it’s a love-hate thing for sure! You feel for the parents, but chaos is chaos 😂
I'm always taken aback by how parents will let their kids run amuck in a store and just do nothing. It's so bizarre to me. I used to work in a bookstore and I remember one day a toddler was taking books off shelves and just tossing them. The mother seemed amused, and just had no concern that someone else would have to clean up her kid's mess. I wanted to say something to her but figured my boss would hold it against me.
Chief
Wow, that mom being amused is next-level bold 😳 You were patient, I don’t know if I’d have kept quiet tbh!
Wow, good for you because I don't think I would have done that. I hate when people don’t' pay attention to their kids and let them scream and yell. It disturbs other people trying to shop.
Chief
Right? It throws off the whole vibe when it turns into a daycare drama.
I'm not a parent but I have a lot of empathy for parents because I can't imagine having to be responsible for a little one 24/7. However sometimes I have to roll my eyes when it seems like the parents don't even care how their child impacts others. Nobody came to the mall to hear your kids screaming for an hour while you just do whatever. It's a big pet peeve of mine, and I don't know why that seems so normal to just let your kids cry and cry.
Chief
Exactly! It’s the balance between empathy and “please control your tiny tornado” vibes 😅
This is why I never took my kids to the store! Jkjk...mostly I tried not to. But, one time, my son, who was probably like 4 or 5 at the time, took off running and wasn't watching where he was going and ran smack into a display and knocked the whole thing down. I was so embarrassed. I helped clean it up. One item was broken. I offered to pay. They said I didn't have to. I had a good talk with my son and that never happened again. But I just remember feeling like a bad mom not being able to "keep my kids in line" at the moment. Damn kids, lol

You know the difference between customer service and cops? Customer service people can actually be fired for failing to de-escalate a situation. ;)
Ever have someone just leave their kid(s) in the store and go to another store?

Right before close? That's a new one for me. The police would have definitely been called at close, if not five minutes before.
That's also when you play the "sorry, but we need to ring you up, the registers automatically shut down at 10 minutes after close" card.
You are an amazing person! That kid probably just wanted some attention
