I’m looking for advice on how I should explain why I want to transition over to FP&A on both my resume and interview. I work closely with FP&A and I feel that my experience will translate well for that role. I analyze the financial statements with them on a monthly basis but haven’t done any projecting/modeling/forecasting work. I feel I can be more creative with FP&A and my work will be a bit more enjoyable. Also, I don’t have a CPA nor Big4 experience, so I don’t think I can go far in my accounting career. Any advice would help. Thanks!
You already explained it here. You want a more creative/interactive role- that’s your answer when/if they ask why you want the job. I transitioned from B4 Audit as a Sr. to a Sr. FP&A Analyst role. I had no forecasting/budget experience but it’s all learned from the process. You have advantages over Finance folk because you are well-integrated into accounting principles and how things impact the P&L.
Also, you can certainly go far in an accounting/finance career without a CPA or B4 experience.
