Money isn’t the only validation in life that someone is successful. Never forget that.
Kanye is so much genius, i would call this one of his top 5 but there’s definitely a lot of golden words out of his mouth out there
Chinese kid with parent pleasing complex here 👋 Multiple years of therapy has made me realize I’ll never make my mother happy. And even if I do make my mother happy that won’t mean I’m happy.
In general after you hit a certain threshold ( eg can comfortably pay rent, food, clothes) money won’t scale with happiness. Figure out what you want out of life and solve for that
Your 25 and making six figures. You are doing well! Believe in yourself!
This is such a great post!
There are consultants crying themselves to sleep to join a FAANG. (Including myself) You should be very proud
Thank you 😊 I hope you find yourself at a FAANG position you love! They would be lucky to have you!
I am glad I have people like my mom and my mil. They teach me and my so to enjoy life and be happy with whatever we are earning. They don’t even ask how much we earn. They are just happy knowing we have enough to eat, spend, travel, invest and save.
She’s just jelly of your dough
100k isn't much if you are living in NY or SF...for 90% of America it's a ton. I would encourage you to get your MBA if your company pays for it or if it comes at minimal financial cost to you. Otherwise, it's not worth paying the tuition and giving up a FANG job and salary for two years. Trust me on this. Finally, make yourself happy first, then worry about your mom.
Same here. Parents always saying fresh new grads make 200k nowadays. Feelsbadman
😂❤️
My mom is the same. She likes to move the goal post. It'll never be enough for her and I'm starting to come to terms with it.
I am beginning to as well. She loves me and your mom loves you. Secretly they think we are rockstars ⭐️
My desi mom has taught me to be happy, enjoy life and take care of the siblings. Money is important but secondary.
Kudos to the kid but this post is depressing!
Dude, if you went to a FAANG, you are the 1% in the entire world. If you went to FAANG, you don’t need an MBA. In this era, Top companies hold higher prestige than top schools.
Love what you do and whom you work with!
You are at a great salary for someone just beginning their career. Get some experience under your belt and continue your education. Not only consider your Masters but specialty credentials that you can leverage to further accelerate but your career and salary. Parent are always living vicariously through their children, when they care. So be grateful you mom pushes because it has gotten you this far.
Thank you 😊 my parents are the biggest reason that I have my accomplishments
Indian born and brought up in India and came here for my MBA. Surprised to see trend and feel lucky that my parents have always cheered and been proud of my achievements. Whether it was the simple job out of undergrad in India or my post MBA job making 140+. Having said that they always encourage me to pursue something I am eyeing. I am definitely going to encourage my kids to do things but also be their biggest cheerleader
Yes! Being cheered on is the biggest catalyst
You need to get over yourself
I don't mean to come off snooty. I know my life is something many people strive to have. Right now my next life decision is very much "up in the air" since I've always followed the system naturally. Simply I came to fishbowl to gain the perspective of others in my position or used to be in my position.
So I'll try to "get over" myself... it's hard when I've usually been down on myself
It’s not THAT much, but for 25 it’s huge! You still have a ton of time in your career!
25 and 100k is great. Good for you. But it’s gone fast when you add mortgage, cars, kids etc. keep at it. You CAN add 100k every 5 years
Thank you 😊 I'm also assuming her push is driven by the whole kids thing too! Something I have no idea about
$10k per year of your age, on average. Will be lower in your 20s and higher hopefully in your 50s
Count your blessings. There are many who never reach that level income in their lives
The majority of people who work full time jobs do not make more than 100k a year... surround yourself with some reality and friends outside of consultants. I need to do that once in a while as well
.t
Wow didn’t realize that at age 26, 60k first year at Big 4 was behind the curve.
Yeah I’d say so. I made more at 26 working for the federal government than that...if salary is important to you, there are alternatives
Doesn't FAANG start off at six figures already post-graduation (for engineering at least)?
Yes software engineers and CS people always get the most. I studied mechanical engineering and do analytics work now
