Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

Spend time with family, read, travel, just enjoy the well deserved down time
I woke up at 8:30am, ate breakfast, and logged into my LVDI by 9am. I start applying to internal roles. I take a break in between applying by checking for interview requests and doing Leetcode.
I went to the gym every morning. Walk home and got my day started. I would make it a goal to submit 10 applications per day so I could get another job. Put that on a spreadsheet so I could track it.
Use your calendar. Work on a side project. It could take months before you get an offer. Once I got a new job and started, my side project started taking off. I thought.. why didn't I do more of this when I had all that free time?
Learn a skill that you've been putting off.
I tutor kids.. literally that's it. Charge $45 an hour. Some people charge even more than that though.
Skills -- I mean like SQL, knowing PowerBI, all those computer skills people talk about. I don't have any of that though except Excel 😅

JPMC is laying off too these days?

Hm, I’d like to think that’s why my application was rejected (with a referral). 😢
First of all take care of my 401k where I don’t lose money with market downturn.
Then have some time off and charge up. Learn new things, explore what should I be doing next as now I have time to think and never settle for less.
Honestly, don’t put too much pressure right now to get organized. I got laid off in January and it took me a while to get into a schedule. But first allow yourself to relax, do what helps you emotionally, spend time with family and friends
But right now I usually wake up, eat breakfast/lunch, apply for a bit/prep for interviews, go to the gym, come back and apply more/prep. Then maybe I’ll hang out with some friends. Or try to do something I enjoy. Also going to cafes to do work is helpful that way you’re not just sitting around at home all day. But I’m trying to enjoy life as much too, I actually planned a trip in June with my friend!
So how much money did you saved to be comfortable enough to take some time off and reset? And how do you justify being laid off during an interview?
I didn’t take time off because I can’t afford it. I have a large mortgage payment due every month.
Laid off in February. Spend 1-2 hours per day scouting for new jobs/applying. Really interesting to see so many people spending all day applying—are you really finding that many to apply to? I’ve been keeping up with the postings and I only see a handful of new postings per day, and some I am over qualified for. I try to set up networking calls, or go to networking events. Otherwise I am volunteering at my son’s school , exercising, basically anything that I never had time to do while having a full time job !
Ugh, sorry, yes that isn’t much
I applied to no less than 1000 roles internally and externally within 45 days. I had at least three interviews scheduled per day.
I got multiple offers.
What will you do when you retire! I’m looking forward to no alarm clocks, no obligations!
Since you need to get back to work, just get up and spend time each day reaching out to your network, research companies you want to work at and see what open roles they have, look on linked in and job boards. And also take advantage of your flexibility right now to go do some stuff during the day you normally don’t have time to do!
Right? Looking forward to it! ( maybe 5 more years)
I use the time to learn
Kept my "9-5" only replaced with job search tasks, like applying, updating my resume, networking, connecting with former coworkers, etc.
Last time I was in this position, I also started volunteering at a community non-profit in a similar role to be able to maintain some semblance of 'working' environment.
I'd love to say take a break and relax, but not in this job market.
Volunteering is a good idea if you are unemployed, retired or someone who is still in college. I volunteered when I was still in college even though I was also working a part-time role.
