If you have a lounge in your home airport 100%.

like

My home airport is the place I use lounges the least. If you arrive that early before your flight, you’re doing it wrong.

like

Oh well I thought they did since it hasn’t been crowded in the last few months for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, make sure you get the corp advantage discount on the annual fees

like

I think $150 off the fee each year

like

Good card but call the retention department a month or two before renewal to try to get a annual fee discount. Also make sure to use all the perks, from Uber credit too saks fifth credit and TSA pre check and others.

like

This is what I do to make it somewhat worth it, but honestly the chase sapphire reserve is better. I have both and I just use the CSR primarily. Travel credit is higher and far easier to use and more categories to earn points on. There’s more value when using the points too vs Amex I believe. Amex feels like it’s 1:1 whereas CSR is 1:1.5 on travel. Amex plat I try to use all the benefits, but it’s really sky club access and clear that is keeping me plus the retention offers.

like

Imo no. Amex is hyper focused on high end experiences and the annual fee is likely not recuperated by the underlying benefits accordingly.

like

If you are military, it is free. We absolutely love the benefits. As others have said, it is geared towards people with higher spending and want to travel. We have used so many of the benefits and love the Amex offers that are easy to add to the card. We save up our points and use then to travel business internationally each year. We will never give this card up.

like

Even if we had to pay the $700 annual fee, we would. We find the value vastly outweighs the cost for us.

Amex Platinum is a travel card only. Points accumulation kinda sucks compared to similar cards (5x for flights & hotels, 1x everything else), but the perks are great! Lounge access is the best perk imo but there are loads of promotions (Uber, Sacs, Hotels, flights, Hulu, DoorDash, etc) so if you use the perks the card pays for itself so if used effectively it’s a great travel card.

I just signed up for one and regret it lmao, the sign up bonus is good but will probably cancel after the first year

Only have it because my company covers the yearly fee. $695 is quite steep, I try to spend as little time as possible in the airport

Venture x seemed better when I did the comparo 🤷‍♂️

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!
