Screamers and toxic personalities. 10000% avoid

like

Except for a few homegrown associates (who are absolute gunners), most of the mid-levels and seniors are the covid-era hires (2021–22 laterals or joiners) so they’re extremely incompetent. That means if you’re even slightly good at what you do, you can stand out as a superstar and know by year 7 whether partnership is in the cards. That said, some partners are terrible, and all of them are demanding and tough graders.

like

A lot of demanding personalities at both the partner and associate level. They lost a few good partners recently that were bright spots (Robert and Chang-do). Lot of cross border work so the hours are very annoying because of all the time zones.

Also if you work with the bankruptcy team on a deal (known as FRI) omg be prepared for some of the worst behaved people you’ll run across.

If one partner doesn’t like you, your career is over. Or at least that’s what three partners said in trying to recruit me. Insane toxic perspective

I’m a senior associate and received an offer to join a very profitable client as general counsel that would open lots of doors professionally and financially. Problem is I’m super burned out on law and was planning on quitting law firm in the next few weeks and doing something else with my life. Someone kick some sense into me before I decline the offer.

During phone screen I asked for a certain amount and after researching, I realized I asked for way lower than the going rate for this role/level. They want to bring me in for onsite. How/when do....

My managers/partners think that I love my job because I am a top performer and have always had very good work ethic, but the truth is that I hate what I do and have developed severe anxiety working in PA for over 2 years.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. I work in finance and at this point I’m expected to handle closing documents, manage first years, draft some portions of major docs, etc. I feel like I’m always frazzled, constantly second guessing if I handled something correctly and anxious to answer calls from clients/OC. The worst part is I think people can tell I’m a mess....

How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?
