Your most competitive application will demonstrate that these schools are not endpoints, but 2-year stepping stones in your future impactful career.
It would be helpful if you review “this is what we look for in applicants” on each school website. Generally, most schools rephrase something along the lines of leadership ability, analytical/intellectual/academic aptitude, and care for other people. Based on these factors, promotion to manager at MBB where you are leading a team and hopefully engaged in some MBB ec/erg stuff may better meet that criteria and let you pick many different things as your post-MBA career goal whether return to MBB (schools like sponsorship because it means you’ll pay full ticket, have definite employment upon graduation, and likely strengthen the school’s presence at such firm), or join just about any industry. However, if your goal is to work in PE, it may make sense to make the switch now to demonstrate you have broken into PE, but want to strengthen xyz skills to be better at your job. PE is highly competitive, even at the top schools with people who worked in PE prior to school returning to PE. If you’re not already in PE, you may need to discuss some intermediate roles/jobs after b school that to ultimately get into PE so that you don’t seem unrealistic/arrogant.

Eh. Plenty of applicants from both routes.
Manager at MBB, will strengthen app. Cant say either option is too unique though.
Both are strong and pretty standard routes tbh
Do you have the PE hand in offer? If so, ask yourself whether or not you want to do the PE job at all. The MBA is there to help you accelerate your career - it's a means to an end, not the end itself. If you don't want to do PE, then reconsider your offer or recruiting for PE.
Don't put the cart before the horse.
