I worked at CNA for several years, I would think your better off staying at TRV. There are several things that make the difference, Travelers has much better benefits, systems, environment, etc. Don’t get blinded by the salary that’s just a hook, it’s the entire package you have to compare them with
CNA will probably offer you more money but you might be walking into complete chaos. I've heard this about multiple offices people have left TRV for. Evaluate the entire situation not just salary. CNA has much more sales pressure and they are not a stable organization.
All companies have their pluses and minuses. C.N.A. has a lot of management turnover and they don’t do multi line underwriting unless that has changed. You will either be in property or casualty. Unless you are leaving for a significant raise or situation you can’t resolve where you are I would stay put. I almost did that twenty years ago and I’m glad I stayed at Travelers. Too much turmoil and change in underwriting philosophy ther,
Yea I agree with the comment right above this. They pay well but its kind of a dumpster fire. They have constant turnover because their work environment can be rather chaotic. I haven't worked in underwriting though I wil say that.
I say pursue it and leverage it as noted before me. I’ve heard of a few people doing it and getting opportunities or increased pay at Travelers. That being said, it’s a risk that Travelers won’t fight to keep you and I have heard not great things about CNA.
Just wanted to add some clarity to this thread regarding CNA. Im a current CNA Underwriter. We do write multiline in middle market. Management will depend on what team or office you work for just like any other carrier. I work with a strong team and have a great work life balance. I was also offered more with another carrier but turned it down after considering the pros and cons. It did motivate me to ask for similar pay and they got close. You never know what you'll be walking into with the other company, so I believe it should never just be about money. 😚
CNA is a trainwreck dumpster fire. Avoid at all costs.
Grass is not always greener on the other side.
I’d stay where you are. Unless things have changed they are not multi line underwriters and you would have to choose between Property and Casualty. They change management and underwriting philosophy frequently.
Curious if you ended up making the move to CNA? If so, how do you like it?
I did not! i am still at travelers
