Depending on usage, the cost associated with using those services will largely outweigh the cost associated with owning a vehicle…
I’d probably do a cost:benefit analysis before executing this strategy…
Expectation: Uber everywhere, DoorDash/Instacart for food and errands
Reality: Amazon Soylent and take the bus
It would probably be cheaper for you to just move to a different city
I'm a country boy and this sounds horrible. I agree driving in traffic sucks, so maybe I would get behind this a little if I lived in a big city with good mass transit, but I would never not have a car. How do you leave the city to see family, vacation, etc.?
Honestly though, this is part of what makes America so great. You and I have extremely different life style preferences, and we can both live as we want.
As for the comments about the finance of it, ignore those. Buying a sports car or Suburban does not make financial sense for most people, but they do it anyway. Why? Because they can afford it and they want it. If you can afford it, and it is what you want, then go for it.
I moved to a HCOL where cars are not needed and I sometimes miss not having one, but overall dont miss the headache
