They are in for many, many more shocking disappointments around US work culture.

I’m just replying for Spain PTI where I have direct knowledge.

I would pay more taxes for free healthcare.

Has s/he figured out we don’t take the entire month of August off yet?

likeupliftingfunny

That is a wild change, seems like an impossible hurdle to get used to if you’re moving countries for work. I would love to work in another country and compare.

Are there more than 11 holidays? There’s 11 in the US, but our PTO doesn’t count holidays as PTO days…

The potential of losing healthcare after layoffs is a ton of additional pressure that should not be taken for granted

like

Do they realize that in the US "holiday" is vacation. Those are just the days everyone is off and does not include your own personal
allotment of time off often referred to as vacation time or PTO.

like

In Nigeria, only school teachers go on holiday in August. But, some workers take their annual leave too in August.

Wait till they find out about US parental leave...shocker there compared to the EU.

Plan is to purchase some time after 2 years or so. Primarily to save up for a larger down payment.

Here’s my plan of attack:
- $30K saved right now ($20K in IBonds and $10K cash)
- $90K saved by July 2023
-$130K saved by 2023 and target a $800K home

For anyone in this bowl. How crucial is it for you to have a formal dining room separated from the kitchen? My son and daughter-in-law are buying a house for their future family and I'm trying to convince them a formal dining room looks better and makes things less chaotic in the kitchen, especially with kids. Am I out of touch? Or is it still important?

I really want to get a second job but I am scared of losing my current one. Both companies are in same field, although not direct competitors so I know it’s technically “not allowed” however, this is the only way for me to get that $$ since I am not paid all that well.

Of course I won’t tell a single friend/coworker. Only my partner. And I don’t post work stuff on social media.

I made a couple errors at a new job. An important document to be distributed had wrong information on it, which was proofread by 2 other people. Then a couple of typos in emails, the person micromanaging me told me to send out but I didn’t fix the errors. Failed to meet a deadline but completed 95%. I was written up over all this last week, fired this week. There’s a lot more to this but I think it’s because the DM doesn’t like me.
