Associates: what is your monthly billable goal? Just trying to figure out what's reasonable 🤔 (my firm is production based, effective rate is ever-changing, and workflow is cyclical)
Our firm is establishing our target billable %'s at a small public accounting firm. Is there a website that gives target billable time % by staff level for the tax and accounting industry? Just started poking around the AICPA website, but would appreciate being able to save some time looking for it. I'm used to a lower % rate than what's being proposed (70% vs 85%) and don't want to cause undue pressure on staff, but do want to give a reasonable billable hours expectation going forward.
Looking to make a lateral move to Lewis Brisbois but have concerns after reading the reviews. How is their pay? Is it easy to hit the billable targets or is there limited amount of work to go around? Any experience in working in the Dallas office?
Does anyone have experience working for a ALSP? How does compensation work (pay and benefits)? Are you an employee or technically an IC? Do you have billable requirements like at a firm? How do you think it prepared you to potentially move in house? I'm currently at a firm but thinking of taking a position with an ALSP but my goal is to go in house.
What does everyone have for billable hours?
I am a 10 yr lawyer. 7 yrs in my practice area. Little over a year at current firm. Still an associate. Im at large plaintiff firm w/ billable requirements. I do mass/class cases and hold a couple leadership positions (these were competitive to get). What should salary be and when should I make partner. I’ll add I work remote and pretty autonomously. Little contact with partners or anyone at my firm.
Anyone have experience working ecvc for Orrick remote? Billable hours requirements? Work/life balance? Can you still do some M&A?
Is it possible to work in tax while only working 40-45 hours per week? I like tax and learning about it, but I cannot keep up with the billable hours and constantly being in busy season.
Does anyone know what the billable requirements are for a counsel job (off the track) with Littler?
Laughing in billable hours
Curious about the results of ATL's survey: with billable hours, how many total do you all work? https://abovethelaw.com/2019/11/are-biglaw-associates-billing-their-butts-off-for-disappointing-bonuses/
What does being terminated as an associate look like during WFH? Our office is having a serious drop in billable hours. If one of us was terminated, how awkward is it to get things from the office?
Smaller Firm Question - how long do you give associates to start making a profit (i.e. doing sufficient billable time that is collectible) before you begin with warnings or termination?
Scenario: 1 Senior associate transferred laterally but did not bring business (this was known), 1 Junior is 3 months in, but seems unable to bill even his own salary, no less enough to cover other overhead. I am billing more than both combined (both hours and $$) and it is driving me crazy.
My firm is hiring. 12 attorney firm in the central coast. Above market comp, 1500 billable hours, great team and culture. Looking for business/civil litigators and general business attorneys
Could someone explain the difference between a firm policy that sets a specific amount of paid vacation time for associates versus a firm policy that has unlimited vacation time? Specifically with respect to how this impacts billable requirements. Thank you!
For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)
I wish my boyfriend was more self-confident and I feel like it’s preventing him from being his best self and living his best life. I also feel like it is causing him to be unmotivated and insecure. A part of me feels bad because it’s not like I want to change him but I really just want him to be happier. Any advice for helping your partner with confidence?

Tried to raise concerns today on my team call and the tech lead unfairly called all of my concerns unimportant (“your priority isn’t the top one”), in front of whole team. Feeling super upset by his reaction, wondering if it’s just me? Being a female?

My onboarding was on 10th October. I was not having the relieving letter from my last company therefore the OM deferred my onboarding to 17th on my request. However, the same is not reflecting on my ibegin portal. She kept all other documents with herself (joining kit, Adhaar copy etc.). I was trying to go to my joining location to submit the relieving letter but the HR told me to wait for the onboarding email for 17th. Has anyone experienced this before? On my iBegin portal, joining date is 10

Are there any ad/creative agencies in London or NY that are focussed on fashion or the fashion industry?
I studied fashion before I studied advertising and become a junior creative, and I'm still orienting where I want to be in the end. Now i'm quite curious whether it's possible to kind of combine the two. And when I think about it, there aren't a lot of industries that rely more on advertising than fashion. So, where do the great fashion ads/installations/activations/experiences come from?

So frustrated... my parents (high risk) don’t follow social distancing and try to find excuses to go out grocery and visit my aunt and uncles! I do all their groceries online but they go buy extras!
Any agencies specializing in TikTok first (but multi channel) influencer campaigns? I’m brand side and we’re considering a big social campaign. Would love to compare a few with strong strategy & creative.

My book mostly has spec work that I did during uni. I haven't yet worked on big book-worthy briefs at my agency. Mostly banners/SM/emailers.
I’m a fairly new mid (> 1 y.) When I have asked, I haven’t received clear feedback on what gets you to senior. I feel like people have taken it as me asking to advance now & that’s not it! Thoughts?

Should I take this new job?
Been at current agency for a year, loved it and love my team. Pros: Benefits are great, as is the mentorship and work is generally quite stable. Cons: Lower paid
The new agency is smaller and benefits aren’t as good but I’ll get a +45% pay increase and title bump. Work is different to what I’m used to which is both exciting and daunting (imposter syndrome will no doubt kick in!).
Ideal situation would have been to stay in current role another year or two... help!
Does anyone else feel inadequate when their partner makes their seed of an idea 10x better? I know that this feeling stems from my ego but it's still burns. It makes me feel like I'm not good at what I do, or rather, want I to be able to do.
