Want to improve my verbal and written communication skills. I hear reading more would help but I don’t read as much as I used to. So I’m wondering what books would help with that? Should I just read books that tickle my fancy like suspense and true crime novels? Help! Welcome to all book recommendations!

Any reading will help with both of these topics. Read some fiction and then read some self improvement books. You are exposed to different words and writing styles. If you don’t know a word look up its definition and then re-read to see how it is used. Reading helps you to be a good writer and it helps with comprehension. I love to read!

I would say read what tickles your fancy for relaxation, and whatever news/culture for insight. For true crime, no one beats Ann Rule. I have been downloading the free book every month from Amazon Prime and have gotten hooked on suspense. But I also make sure to mix in some gentle and non violent things too to save my brain LOL. Easy reads from Alexander McCall Smith, who captures people’s voices like no one else. Comedy from David Sedaris or Jenny Lawson. I also like things in a series as the characters can start to feel like friends.

Where do you find free books on Amazon Prime?

Thank you so much for your recommendations! Super helpful! ☺️

Hello, after doing some research I believe I’m being underpaid. About 4 months ago HR did a market analysis for my role. They bumped my salary for about $2k. I’m a mid-level Executive assistant with 6 years of experience and currently supporting 5 executives at a fortune 50 company. One C level and 4 Vice Presidents. I’m currently making $61,000 with bonus included. Based on my research I should at least be making $71,400. I have a check in with my boss tomorrow and I am asking for a raise.

I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?

The EA/Admin profession used to be a gateway for many people to get their foot in the door and grow into different career paths. For most organizations this is no longer the case. Do you see EA’s/Admins growing into different roles within your orgs? If so, what paths are taken? What steps are taken to get there? What I’d like to learn is whether our profession still has the capability to be a doorway or if others are seeing the same things I am; limited opportunities for development.
