At this point, I cannot go elsewhere and get paid the same and "do less". To get paid the same, I need to be in a position of significant responsibility like a CFO. The flexibility and challenge of PA keeps me here.
Even at lower levels, everyone is asked to do more with less pay. That’s business. Business want profit through any means allowed.
it’s a myth that corporate pays better and asks less.
I second this.
Started looking at industry jobs in February / early March. Based on discussions with recruiters and feedback from a few companies, I was surprised to learn that the grass is NOT greener on the other side (I’m an M3). I landed a couple of interviews and they both made a point to advertise consistently long hours (~ 8 pm every day). The pay is sometimes less, sometimes comparable to Big 4. One more raise and I’m priced out of the market. On top of that, there appears to be a stigma with “public only” experience. It’s going to be tough finding the perfect combination of good team/corporate culture, interesting/ challenging work, reasonable work-life balance and fair pay. Needless to say it has been a humbling experience.
Curious if late Senior/early Manager ranks had the same experience trying to transition out. M1 used to be the magic rank (or so the legend goes).
