“Even the most brilliant mind is no defense against the disease of alcoholism. I can't think my way sober. I try to remember that intelligence is a Godgiven attribute that I may use, a joy—like having a talent for dancing or drawing or carpentry. It does not make me better than anyone else, and it is not a particularly reliable tool for recovery, for it is a power greater than myself who will restore me to sanity—not a high IQ or a college degree.”
Am I just supposed to pretend like I believe there is a HP who can help get me sober and ignore my better judgement?

“Fake it till you make it.” It’s what I did, and I’ll pick up my six year chip next week.
For me, my “better judgement” resulted in:
- Two crashed cars
- A night in jail
- Countless failed relationships
- A hellish cycle of: drink > hangover > regret > justify/deny > repeat
- A web of lies and deceit
I don’t think anyone wants to need AA, and certainly no one likes doing the steps, because they ask that we try a different approach, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t work and my life isn’t 1,000% better today than it was six years ago.

This is a pretty darn good Daily Reflection, and a trap many people fall into; I know I certainly did.
Completely agree…in fact, I think the smarter people are, the better they are at thinking themselves out of staying sober…
This is why I can’t stay sober
