We have an employee in a probationary period. We are industry and required to 3 warnings. The period lasts 12 months. The first two warnings were within a month of eachother. There just isn't any improvement. I have enough documentation for HR to do next warning and terminate. Do I go a few more weeks for more documentation on his performance issues, or push HR to let us terminate now? This will end with termination for sure- he refuses to try harder and misses deadlines consistently.

Why are you so hesitant? Looks clearly like this isn't a good fit, the sooner you move on, the sooner you both can find something that works.

Talk to HR, our HR has their way to do things. They have a package and make the employee accept and walked right then. Or HR said after PIP, there is nothing.

Do the documentation required for the third and final warning, working with HR to see that you covered everything you need to. Why prolong what obviously isn't getting any better?

HR is getting guidance from legal so they want you to follow the process. Talk to them and make sure that they know exactly what the issues are, have them look at the documentation and see is anything needs to be done differently.

Correct most don't. This employee misses internal deadlines all the time, so everyone else picks up the slack to meet the IRS deadlines. He's never going to change.

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

Got hired 3 years ago- newly created staff accountant role with the plan that it’ll go into a senior and then manager role. 1.5 years in I get a title promotion to senior, told I’ll get more duties, start supervising AP, and get monetary promotion to match next year. Got way more work, but nothing else promised within that year. Told next money bump would be manager role (no raise for senior still) and I need to take on more and start supervising AP. Again, seeing nothing…time to leave?
