You have to be more responsible an train yourself to start an arrive early. In nursing school we couldn't be one minute late or we were sent home. An if you were sent home more than two for tardiness you were cut from the program. Train yourself to be early even just ten to fifteen minutes early you'll find you'll have a more productive an a better day. It's jyst a life lesson is all. You'll get better🥰
What ever happened to personal responsibility? You got a warning for a reason. And, even though you say you learned your lesson, you're whining about it on social media.
You can't expect to be tardy constantly and keep a job. There's a start time for a reason.
I’m aware of that and clearly stated it was hard lesson learned. No need to convey what was already expressed.
In healthcare I have experienced this. I was given a warning for tardiness. Then a supervisor said as long as they knew i would be late and the reason i would be excused. Over the next 8 months i was late 6 times all due to traffic and accidents in the area limited roads to get from my house to work, always less than 4 min. My 7th tardy I was stuck behind and accident where the paramedics and police had the road blocked so no one could get through. I sent a message and photos dated and time stamped informing of the situation. After that I was wrote up. I had a co-worker who was late min of 3 times a week. they offered to change her schedule instead of writing her up (she volunteered this information). So why wasn't i given this option as well? I ended up leaving that position, I did not feel that everyone was treated equal. That is also the first job i had in my 30 years of working where my tardiness was questioned.
"First job in my 30 years where my tardiness was questioned." okay. well now you been made aware Favoritism is real. and to add, today Jobs, managers care more about themselves not you the diligent dedicated worker. My job of thirty years was taken from me while laying on back on a vent and clot buster medicine, It took me time to heal both mentally and physically and i was on Vent 1o days before being weaned.off. When I woke up from that ordeal Covid had started! My Boss demanded me back at work via a phone call and I was on speaker phone be given this demand. Someone the Boss, i knew well, what a joke i didnt know her at all. Everything was shut down and I was out of a job. my job. I was excellent at that job but it was determined I was no longer needed. Move on, you mind will think, "Why but why not you". Think of it this way, You are meant for a more meaningful, more flexible position in this work world, Another job will come. Flexibility will come next job because you will request it or inquire about it. My advice is to realize your working for yourself. Everyone will not like you for one reason or another! but who cares. You will not get the breaks some get! This is why you moved on. This move makes sense. Make it count! You can only get better!
My son took a tour at a college in Florida and they said on time is late and early is on time . Being late was unexcused . And the college did that to teach people what it was going to be like when they got a job
I have a question for you. If this was your business and you were depending on an employee to be at work on time for each shift in order for your business to run smoothly and make money for your business, how would you feel?
It is not difficult to be on time.
I have never been able show up in time for 8am start my whole life until I went back to school for EMT- they said class starts at 8 and not 801, lunch ends at 1 and not 110. After realizing I need to get there these people are serious I moved the alarm clock back 15 minutes and I’ve been there in my seat ready to roll. Just start earlier and give yourself time for traffic, coffee etc
Sorry to hear you lost your job. I hope there was an escalation process. typically they don’t just write you up after being late so many times. it’s multiple tardiness after multiple months. Especially if you work for a system or leader that are sticklers about timelines.
Early is on time and on time is late.
I guarantee the person that fired her is a stickler for lateness - no doubt in my mind.
Set all the clocks 20mins ahead.
I know that at most of my jobs you could only punch in 7 mins before your shift or 7 mins after. So you were not late until 8 mins after. We were told that management really did not want us on the premises any earlier due to liability issues. This was when I worked in a Dr's office. But of course the doctors were always late but that was OK to make us all wait.
Fact & Agree!
Especially in healthcare. You must be on time. Next job, you might want to work for the state or county where you live.
Your role as an MA is important. Take it as seriously as your employer and patients do. As an old professor taught me when I was 3 min late for class..."if you can be five min late you can be five minutes early". .... You got this!
Karma will come. My supervisor had me terminated while I was on medical leave, but several months later he was fired in front of everyone.
I drive a bus. If I’m late the bus is late and people are late to their jobs
It is important to arrive on time for work. Being late often affects your teammates and the previous shift. I have been at end of 12 hour shift waiting for another nurse to take my report on my patients who is late consistently. No one wants the nurse to take their patients because they know that person will be late.
CNA and nursing is different than imaging side of things. If I text my boss I’m going to be 5 minutes he genuinely doesn’t care. Appreciates the heads up but doesn’t ever mark it down unless I’m delaying patient care.
I will say I’ve been like maybe 3x in 10 years. Due to car crashes or extremely heavy traffic for no reason on the daily commute. I’m normally 20-30 minutes early, check my schedule drink coffee BS with others.
On the blue collar side of things if people were late they had to drive themselves to the job site or got fired pretty quick without giving a heads up they were running behind.
Tardiness and attendance is a big deal....
That depends on who you are, what relationship to management you are. what color you are. What is your Position? If your from same ethnic group. What etnic group owns it?
It depends on a lot of things but Tardiness and attendance has a different definition in healthcare!! You have to work it to believe what goes on really.
I'm sorry, but I don't have a lot of sympathy. It's all tied to responsibility, having respect for your co-workers, and your patients. I't's also called being an adult. Sometime back when I was working in the hospital...12+ hours non-stop and next shift coming in late? I had little tolerance for that. Things happen...the very occasional tardy arrival can be overlooked, but since you previously received a warning, it doesn't sound like this was occasional. Take this as a lesson for your next job. (We all have to have "lessons" knocked into our heads at one time or another).
Thank you for clarifying your reasoning for being tardy and terminated because of it. Sounds like you were overworked and did your best to stay ahead of your daily tasks etc. I’m sorry this happened to you and hope that you’ll find the right work life balance that’ll suit you. Wishing you all the best.
The good thing is you adknowledge your tardiness. Now keep a positive mindset and focus on doing better.
If your clock in time was 30 minutes to an hour before patients show up then your employer expects you to be accomplishing certain work in that interim. They simply don't want to be bothered with even having to speak to you about lateness. Easier for them to simply let you go and get someone they don't have to confront. Staying on time and under the radar is always best!
I’m so sorry 😢
Because she hurt herself.😂
Unfortunately part of being an adult in the workforce is following a company's rules. 10 min can make the difference in life or death in most medical environments. The rule is there for a reason. Chronic tardiness also demonstrates a lack of maturity and responsibility. That's what they care about.
