I just want to say good luck and kudos to you for asking for help where you need it. You can only do so much, and taking some things off of your plate will actually make it easier to be present with your kiddos when you are with them!
You’re asking totally the right questions and you’re definitely not alone in this. In fact, most people who seem to have it all have a tonne of support in all sorts of forms to make the ‘magic’ happen.
The only advice I’d have is (if you’re actually looking to hire, beyond advice) is join a local mums group on Facebook or an app for mums (there is Peanut in the UK, not sure if this is in the US too, there’s got to be an equivalent anyway). You’d get more advice and leads in your actual area from mums in a similar boat.
All the best. Do what’s right for you and your circumstances!
Cooking for just the kids or the whole family? I do have a great nanny and while she is by no means a chef, she does prepare simple food for the kids - mostly recipes I’ve given her like muffins, broccoli tots, meatballs. I looked for caring first, intellectually stimulating second, clean and tidy, and cooking was the last thing. We found her on sittercity but interviewed several people found through my local Facebook parents group and care.com as well. Good luck!
We had a nanny for a long time and she was wonderful. But, when our kids (and my husband and I) needed more support, I had to change the job description and hired a “house manager.” She did a LOT - she cooked, she ran errands, she took care of the house and she was great with my kids. She had immigrated from East Africa and had an associates degree and had run a hotel in her home country, so she had a lot of applicable skills. In addition to being from a different culture, she followed a different religion, so my kids learned a lot from her.
We found her on Care.com.
