U can ask question, you can have a few of it.
Examples how many interviewee, am I one of possible candidates to join the team?
Rising Star
That’s forward but it just might work if phrased right. Like “with my qualifications, am I someone you see contributing to your team?”
That's always a good question. It's always hard to figure out how things have gone, especially as a lot of interviewers just reflexively sound positive. It's that thing where being upbeat may or may not be genuine. My attitude is that if nothing has gone obviously wrong, I might as well maintain a positive attitude while I wait to hear.
Rising Star
Yep, sometimes they can be hard to read. When they are asking specific questions, like about pay and when I could start, then maybe I’d think they’re interested
I'll be honest, I don't look for hope anymore. I don't like getting my hopes up only to end up disappointed. I assume if they call or email me to invite me to a final stage, that is when I know I have made it.
Rising Star
That’s fair, to keep Hope out until you have concrete answers
When I interview a candidate I try not give a hint one way or the other.
It’s true, it’s not always easy to tell, but there are definitely some encouraging signs. For example, if the interview lasts longer than expected, if they ask more in-depth questions, or start talking about next steps or timelines, that’s usually a good sign. Also, when they seem genuinely interested, engage in a real conversation, or introduce you to other team members, it can mean you’re being seriously considered. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but those clues can definitely give some hope!

I usually take it as a good sign when they start talking less in hypotheticals and more like they are picturing you there. Things like discussing timeline, availability, next steps, or introducing you to more people usually give me more hope. None of it guarantees anything, but those are usually better signs than a short rushed wrap up.
