What are the best graduate degrees/schools for a career in social impact (P3, impact investing, social enterprise, CSR)? Currently thinking about the HKS MPA-ID but struggling to find similar caliber programs.

I've seen a lot of partners at education VFs with MBA degrees. I'm at a Harvard program and took a class on social impact investing at HKS and it was actually terrible. I actually think HKS isn't really the best school for that type of gig.

like

Oops yeah venture funds. Also, I read your question too quickly and assumed you meant specifically social impact investing. If you're considering social impact very broadly, an MPA and MBA could both get you there. What exactly are you looking to do?

Look at ivory tower international affairs rankings - hopkins sais, georgetown msfs, Columbia SIPA, Princeton woody woo, even tufts fletcher all have focuses in the area you're looking at.

Would caveat that it might just be better to go MBA route and plenty of clubs / electives to customize your brand.

Best case scenarios is going dual degree which is what I'm looking at to enter the space.

like

Dual degree is solid - the trick with HKS is that it gives you a network of interesting people, but typically not career success on its own (eg., much stronger if you combine with business, law, etc)

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I have been in Recruiting and HR for 11 years and thinking about making a career move. Ild love to hear from anyone that’s made a career move from HR to a different role.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

Hello people!

It’s been a good journey ever since I started to work with a team where our major goal is implementing digital banking solutions. But Im part of business team and not product team. Now I’m more interested in the digital products and have enrolled my self for this UI/UX designer course as I want to change my career trajectory and don’t want to work as key relationships manager in the business team anymore. Can anyone share their experience and feedback, what more I need to do ??

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Additional Posts in Consulting Exit Opportunities

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!
