Mindtree culture is detoriating day by day . No clarity on hike and appraisal even though mail have been sent regarding this since Dec 2021 . Disgusting HR head practice who joined from CTS . How come they don't abide by what they communicate and keep silence without any update for delay .

Thinking about leaving my position at Red Ventures as a Software Engineer, for an internship at AWS with potential to be hired full time. Right now I’m making 75-90k a year at RV but from what I hear at Amazon Web Services I could be making double. But I worry about the burn out at FAANG companies. Opinions? I feel my salary is pretty low for what I do.

Very low. But ask what people actually bill...sometimes the real unspoken expectation is way higher than the “minimum”.
Firm used to have a single pass/fail number. Now many have 4. A lower limit that muse be met (1600) a number to qualify for the yearly class raise of $10k (1800), a number where bonus calculation starts (2000) and a number where a fixed bonus is given (2200).
That’s super low typically they’re 1900-2000
I’m at HAK and it’s 2000.
That may be technically correct but not practically correct; even firms with no hours requirement expect ~2000 hours, and true partnership track midlevels/seniors are generally at 2400+.
That is not true at all. 2400 is absurd
Vault is a great resource for this information: https://www.vault.com/company-profiles/law/hunton-andrews-kurth
As well as NALP: https://www.nalpdirectory.com/employer_profile?FormID=12425&QuestionTabID=39&SearchCondJSON=%7B%22SearchEmployerName%22%3A%22hunton%22%7D In this case, neither site has hours information listed but for other firms, these are good resources.
If you’re in pretty much any kind of litigation these days (except complex commercial, etc.) be prepared for more insurance carrier-centered work as the years progress. Carriers are really pushing into certain markets where they didn’t have a huge presence in the past (like life sciences and EPL policies). The future for most firms is going to be high pressure to bill bill bill due to downward pressure on rates, strict billing guidelines, arbitrary time cuts, and other cost cutting measures that make it more difficult to compete against highly skilled and exceptionally well-resourced/financed plaintiffs attorneys. Plaintiff side is breeding a generation of absolute killers. Defense is breeding a bunch of paper pushing glorified claims adjusters who won’t be able to try a basic slip and fall case (nothing against being a claims person by the way - it’s just not the same mentality and skill set as a trial lawyer)
I would say if this is the road you are going down, never ever bill less than 2000 in a year.
C1 I know, that was sort of the point I was trying to make. I should say - Even if it’s not a carrier, the clients are becoming similarly cost conscious and more of a sophisticated consumer, so to speak. We occasionally will catch a break with some clients who pay better rates and just let us do things the right way, but that’s not the norm these days. I feel like tony soprano - “It’s good to be in something from the ground floor. But I came to late for that”
I’m in “big law” for the inter-mountain west (which feels very different from coastal big law) and ours is 1850 for bonus eligibility, with a scaleable bonus for every 50 hours after that depending on the firm’s profitability. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone get fired for not meeting that requirement, but if you’re not consistently billing/collecting around that amount, especially as your practice progresses, you won’t be in a position to make partner when the time comes because that decision is based on allocations.
Im in Houston 2050 is mine. 3yr
1900 with bonus thresholds based on hours worked above the requirement
If you are representing insurance companies, partnership track will require 2200+.
Chief
We don’t have one. Average billable hours firm wide are typically 1850-1900 with some groups below that and some groups well above.
Is 2200 pretty high?
Agreed!
Can anyone confirm that Hunton AK’s associate hour requirement is only 1500 per year?
It is all about value. I personally think that the billable hour is ludicrous. I try to train associates to look at the big picture, how much money is involved, how important is the issue to the client or its industry, what are the client's goals, and what does the client view as a successful outcome. Then work on a budget, present to the client and manage the project to meet expectations of value.
Milwaukee 1800
Kentucky 1,900, but many in my group (litigation) are on pace for 2,000.
NYC is 2000 at HAK to be bonus eligible. ie I’m not getting a bonus this year hahah.
We don’t have a particular requirement but anything below 1800 is alarming as per the HR during my orientation.
I’m pretty sure 1,500 is for paralegals at HAK.
Is this standard in the us? I’m in a silver circle Uk firm, no idea how many hours I did last year but it’s definitely less than 1500 and no one has even brought it up or discussed it. Surely finding billable hours is something partners not associates worry about? I can’t do hours if there’s no work.
