If in your mind the range is 110 to 120 always say 120 to 130 and you may get 125.
Btw I think your range is about right.
The right answer is, don’t give them an answer. Do not give them a number. You can say “it’s really hard for me to give you a number, I’m interested in a comprehensive compensation package and being part of a growing and exciting company.” That tells the recruiter that you’re not just looking for a base salary AND doesn’t give them a number. Respond by asking a question, how is this position compensated? I’d like to get a sense of how you structure it. If you get cornered to give them a number tell them a wide range, top of your target. Good luck OP! 🍀
Thank you! This is insightful. I’ll tell them a range of $100k-$1M 😂
Before you provide a range, you would need to better understand what the role entails and look forward to speaking to the team to learn about the position.
I’m just asking best practice, as this is the first time I’ve been asked to provide a range for a new position.
Give a rough estimate or a floor. You need to know your worth and know what to expect, so you don’t waste each other’s time. There’s been enough times where they’re way below what I want, so we part ways right there.
What PwC 1 said. Know how low you’re willing to go for you to accept the job, and tell them that’s what you want. You don’t want to end up with them offering you a job but it’s 10-20% below what you would ever accept
Agree with above, why even give a range? I’d always say what I’d expect roughly or what my lowest acceptable would be
Look up the position and salary on Glassdoor and give your expectations based on that.
Within reason AC, there’s an art to it. That’s how I negotiated a $50K sign on
