What are your success stories about succession planning? I was hired as a lateral to work on/help sustain a retiring partner's book of business. During my interview in 2017, he said his target retirement would be 2019-2021. Now, after a good 2020 (for our practice area), he mused that he might not retire until 2025. I don't want him to feel pushed out, and have a lot to learn from him, but I do want to help/plan handoff of work. Interested in guidance for how to have these conversations!

You can’t push the partner out, but I would be very proactive about taking more (or total) leadership on matters as much as you can, and work on becoming the point-person for the clients. The goal is that the clients will feel just as comfortable contacting you as the partner. That’s how you take over the book of business (and start building your own referral business hopefully).

I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $350k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

Products I worked on previously were sold to a new company. I am a good fit because of my experience. However, I specifically left the previous company because I disagreed with the strategic direction they were taking with the products and didn't leave on the best terms with some of those involved. How up front should about be about that history in the interviews?

I have cleared 1st round at KPMG.
In the L2, managerial round, is there any chances of getting rejected? There were only technical quest asked. I feel I could not clear it as HR gave m the feedback that interview said I am working on a support project in Infosys. There are other things as well in feedback but this was something strange.
Ik, it's stupid question but still wanna know uhr valuable opinion

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.

How did you get into your area of law? I have been licensed for 5 years and I still don't know where I ultimately want to be.
