The jargon 💀
THIS. IS. IT.
High pitch voices saying "I think this is a great opportunity for your career" (while it really isn't).
Getting asked to cancel vacations because the team is under resourced.
Getting asked to volunteer your time (and over time) because you can work faster and better than others.
And the last straw, calling 50hrs/wk good wlb.
BCG1 not everyone uses their free time just to “chill out and bs”. Your inability to engage in other productive and meaningful activities with 2 hours of free time does not translate them to a waste of time for others.
I had a manager tell me TODAY “I feel like people who don’t stress are bad to work with”

I thought that is what consulting was about!! Welcome to the real world!
The people who don't fit and complain about a job/role/company I love working at. If you hate it that much, please leave and stop mudding up the environment the rest of us thrive in.
AC1, thanks for self identifying.

Consulting is an elite profession for good reasons. No where could you work hard, learn from others, constantly improve your skills and aim for a higher goal amidst all of it. The rewards are many for the dedicated. As long as there is daytime tv and other entertainment/personal dramas keeping regular FTEs a bit preoccupied, set in their ways and eventually a bit ego centric, there would be need for consultants till the end of the world! Amen!

The people, the work, the non-process, the I experience in leadership…the lack of transparency, the 6 mos reorganization…the list goes on
The “non-process” is interesting
The duality of intelligence and dumbness. The contradiction of freedom and corporate imprisonment. The unnecessary focus, concern and pressure on extremely small things. The cynical servitude to unsophisticated clients to deliver what the project sponsor wants in order to continue to sell work instead of pushing clients out their comfort zone.

How people try to sound smart when they really aren't saying anything.
Hyper-focus on billable hours as a factor I am responsible for (?!) although I am in a salaried position: if there aren’t enough billable hours, that is a conversation for someone in sales and marketing- not the person doing the client-facing work.
In tandem with the hyper-focus on not “burning up” the budget by “using up” said billable hours…no matter what, you’re about to get a talking to. Danged if you do, and danged if you don’t.
Somehow people magically end up within ~5% of the estimated hours every time! How very magical lol
The people
Email bot for timesheets
Having to tell people we expect 45+ hours a week of billed time
Then don’t, let’s normalize a 40 (or less) hour work week. If that means work doesn’t get done, then it’s up to the company to hire more people. And if they can’t attract talent due to uncompetitive pay, then their problem.

Micromanagers!!! I don’t mind anything from work standpoint - But I genuinely hate micromanagers and their politics!
Tie between consultants and clients. If I didn't have to interact with either I'd love my job.
One way feedback
I cant give feedback to my managers. Like their feedback is essentially required for my career progression but its not really a thing the other way around.
