What is the culture like, type of work and reputation of Capco in the Data & Analytics space?
I have some good ex colleagues who moved over there and also looked up on LinkedIn and see lots of seemingly smart and accomplished people in their D&A team in the UK.
I'll ask my ex colleagues too, but wanted to see if people here have any opinion or information on this too.
TIA

Can Apple support turn off “Find My Iphone” for you? I need to turn it off for a phone trade it, but I don’t have access to the Apple ID for that phone. Submitted a request for access but it won’t take effect until 1/17, while I have to ship the phone out by 1/8.
Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Strategy& folks, how do you truly feel regarding overall happiness with your job? I feel like often times we only see negative opinions on here (people come to vent about being overworked etc) so I’m curious if there are a bunch of happy S& employees out there just keeping more quiet

The jargon 💀
THIS. IS. IT.
High pitch voices saying "I think this is a great opportunity for your career" (while it really isn't).
Getting asked to cancel vacations because the team is under resourced.
Getting asked to volunteer your time (and over time) because you can work faster and better than others.
And the last straw, calling 50hrs/wk good wlb.
BCG1 not everyone uses their free time just to “chill out and bs”. Your inability to engage in other productive and meaningful activities with 2 hours of free time does not translate them to a waste of time for others.
Performance reviews that are too easily influenced by what someone thinks about you/working norms vs. about what tangible impact you’ve delivered.
Something like “should send notes right after meetings instead of waiting til end of day” seems silly to me in a performance review.
Only “Words” matter. Unless you are a good ol’ boy or kissed the right ass, then only those words used when kissing that ass mattered.
1) No quantifiable metrics on your review. All opinions, what people say. No compliments on tangible things you accomplished and the tangibles don’t seem to impact your paycheck.
2) Above coincides with the “selling of words” as people intermix their consulting firms, Deloitte, Accenture, PWC, McKinsey it’s interesting to hear them sell each other and they all take it in. All selling each other “Words”. Nobody calls BS. You would think would think these people all know they are being BS’d and sold, but only words seem to matter. Sometimes I think “wow, they are selling each other so much, and so fast, soon we will reach nuclear fission”
3) A lower ranking employee can kill your consulting career in one day with out of context words or complaints. Generate an extra $10m in revenue, build a team, build processes, get stuff done, work your days off and have a rocking 364 days, one person says words to your boss on/about one day, and you are done.

The fetishization of being busy, and the assumption that everyone is willing or able to keep taking on more responsibilities well after they’ve reached burnout.
I'm with you here. I almost replied to a request for more work to be added to my plate with "either accept no, or accept my 2 week notice." After I tried to push back and they ignored it.
Timesheets and everything is critical (when it’s not)
Worked at ACN for 11 years, missed one timesheet and received multiple emails about how important it was to get them in on time (mine was 30 minutes late). I was on the bench…
Favoritism. Being smart and competent yet still getting overlooked for great projects because I’m not in the “in crowd”.
UTD1, I'm largely the same, but to be honest, networking and social skills are an important part of consulting as well.
The smart people get stomped on while sales folks rule
There’s no making any sales without the smart people, so stomping on them is very short sighted indeed.
The fake laughs at happy hours. The one where they hold a glass, laugh, and lean back.
I’ve seen this one before 😂

Being 'resources'
That’s every company - literally human “resources”
Everything. I’m here for money
People being fake, esp the fake smiles
GFSD1 - that’s my takeaway too. My father was quite senior in banking. And after a certain point growth just seems so much more political than consulting due to longer “wait” times and less spots. One strength of consulting is faster well defined progression. That is a luxury we enjoy compared to most industries or companies.
Not that consulting can’t get political but it seems to be worse and seems to happen earlier in industry
People who know very little about a topic will present themselves as experts and box out actual experts who can expose their ignorance and threaten that status.
Jack of all trades, master of none rings true
0 work/life boundaries - don’t remember the last time I didn’t do something work related for an entire day, including weekends
Cutthroat behavior
Pro
Coming from an engineering background, I miss tangible work.
Not being able to tell off my clients when they do something stupid
Feeling pressured to stay out with the team while traveling.
It’s one big popularity contest. Don’t get me started on the fake conversations during afterwork socials where some, if not most, are intel-gathering to find out how they can one-up or stab you in the back
Rising Star
Having to develop every young staff member on every engagement team, including ones that don't want to learn
This is my favorite part of the job!
Colleagues who act “passionate” about what they do, but are really in it for the money like the rest of us
