Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

I'm a Christian and also a scientist by nature.
So my answer is two-fold:
-- Science: we have an ongoing worldwide pandemic, COVID, that is still infecting and re-infecting human and mammalian hosts.
It's a vascular disease spread by respiratory symptoms. It rapidly ages people, with enough damage to the brain due to vascular damage aka mini strokes and inflammation. Specifically, a lot of frontal lobe damage which effects executive functioning and decision making as well as memory. Also, the ongoing stress of this pandemic inflames the limbic system which affects impulse control. Lots of studies being done on psychoneurological damages by COVID, while people live in denial about it yet suffer the consequences.
-- Christian: we are living in end of days before the Rapture. Read on this in the New Testament. Start with Matthew 24:12 and then start at the beginning.
However, Isaiah 41:10 says "Be not afraid, for God is with you." Psalms also has many comforting verses.
My PTSD causes fairly wild mood swings and inability to be optimistic so I don't expect more from others than I would for myself during these struggles. The only difference is that I dont have the power to destroy someone's life and cause them PTSD so I think people with power should be held to a minimum standard but in my experience they are not.

Studies show that many social media posts are designed to sow conflict and drive disengagement. They are “democracy disrupters.” Please keep that in mind when evaluating whether posts are genuine.
I am a bowl moderator and have seen fake accounts, false representations regarding where the poster is located or if they belong to the bowl’s stated profession or company, etc.
Yes I try to take the trolls into account.
I think… the majority of people aren’t naturally hostile in nature… like you said, the minority can be… but it’s more about upbringing and world view versus human nature… my wife can be hyper-critical… I tend to see the best in people… neither route is wrong…
1 - cruelty is not unique to the US
2 - low level hostility is not the same as cruelty
3 - online is a bad barometer for human behavior
4 - where time is money, as in our culture, it can be hard to justify spending time to empathize with others. The best thing you can do imo is offer that empathy to those individuals who are striving and struggling to deal with the same negative cultural and economic forces as you are.
Are you sure that your perceptions of other peoples’ attitudes during interviews etc are correct? Is it possible that what you perceive as low level hostility is just exhaustion, overwhelm, stress or anxiety that may have nothing to do with you or with interviewing you? It’s really really hard to leave the stresses of life at the door. And it’s really hard to make ends meet right now
Yes everyone is struggling.
I think there’s deep rooted cultural problems here that go far beyond work only. I got bullied all throughout my childhood, dealt with crappy cold people in college, and surrounded by ruthless cutthroats at work. I opened up about this with an acquaintance of mine from an Asian country who told me she thinks this is just how they see american culture as being bullies with no sense of community, and it makes sense everything and everyone is so cruel and self centered.
Your asian friend wasn't lying lol. One of my friend who I no longer talk to was beaten by her RW christian parents who were very harsh and backward thinking, and now she treats her kids the same and they've now become angry bullies.
A lot of companies are initiating testing in their hiring process and practice to root these folks out. They cost companies significant cash as their behavior brings down productivity.
How do they do this? My boss who was unskilled with his job and managing people had several interviews before taking on his director position. And yet when he came on board he belittled the mission and the job and openly stated that he was retiring and slept in his office half the day.
