What does/did your Administration do during COVID for Self-Care for Teachers & Staff? I’ll go first! 😊 *bought us lunch like six times (like Chick-fil-A lunch). *wellness November (prizes). *self-care-Bingo (again prizes) *our principal came over the PA and told us to go home! It was beautiful weather outside *unless there is an ER, no calls/texts to colleagues after 6 pm and on weekends. What is happening/happened at your schools??

We received an email with self-care tips and got our usual teacher appreciation lunches. Our new principal wants to have me, as the art teacher, come up with a painting day for the staff so they can paint their happy place for the new year to hang in their rooms as a reminder. And we are going to start adding more artwork to the school to liven it up and create a stronger sense of community in our school.

I didn’t even realize that there were admin out there doing these kinds of things. I’m happy that some of you all are being supported and not every school is like mine. I really mean that. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I’ve been through , heck what I’m only beginning to go through, really. But I am going to be okay.

This is incredible! We opened free, confidential counseling services to all staff through our counseling center but beyond that we didn’t get much.

like

But that is a great start! Maybe build from that idea next year 😊

Wow, what a dream!! I can’t imagine…! I think that our school system made more meetings virtual, like from our own classroom and reminded us about counseling services available…

You mean besides being constantly asked to trade our prep period for $25 to cover a class because we are 12 subs short in our building?

Nothing.

Nothing.

I’m currently in a 1BR for $2400. Am I crazy to pay $3k for a studio in a much nicer building in the same area? My current building is trash and I realized having an updated kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room would be really nice, but not sure if it’s worth the price tag vs finding another place at $2500ish. I’ll be local for the foreseeable future even post-COVID

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

Ever had an attorney randomly pull food that they somehow squished in their shoe during long court days. One day, it was taking forever in federal court due to the COVID backlog. An attorney was sitting at a table across from where I was sitting. Kept noticing him reaching down like he was scratching his foot then would bring his hand to his mouth. Very strange. Court concluded and I saw him by his car taking off his shoe and pulling a squished baggy with half a sandwich out of it.

Hi all,
I graduated during Covid with a double major in business administration and business management with a minor in marketing and magically ended up in sales because I needed a job. I’m about to take a data analytics course to make an attempt to break into that field. I’m currently looking for a mentor to help guide me during this time. Also, if anyone is willing to look over my resume and give me tips on how to make it more presentable for recruiters in DA that would be very helpful. Thanks

Ok. I am teaching music in person and when we have a case of COVID in the school, I push into the classroom for 10 days. Are there music websites that are free that I can go to for quick lessons when I’m asked to teach in the classroom. I was told today with 5 minutes to prepare that we had a case, I couldn’t teach in my room and I couldn’t do the ukulele unit I had planned. I had to think on the fly and quickly came up with a BrainPop for them. I’d like to find a few more music sites.

After 5 years of freelancing (which I have loved) I am considering a full-time gig. Although COVID is in the back of my mind, this is more about what I’ve been lacking since FL: consistent team, seeing an idea all the way through, challenging myself to grow, being exposed to latest tech trends to better my ideas... I know I can always go back to FL if FT doesn’t work out, but curious where others’ heads are at these days. Am I crazy to consider going back to the golden shackles?

Subs! Internal subbing is draining the life out of teachers. The sub schedule comes out at the last minute bc of so many teacher absences. It’s the split classes in one period (1/2 Gen Ed and a Special Ed class) Teachers on a cart. Subs pick up students and deliver students. Class changeovers take 10 minutes bc of the domino effect. We’re all waiting for next sub. Teachers are late for their own classes. Students are in chaos with rotating subs. We pay $100 a day. Is the Solution in plain sight?
