What is a Director role at Morgan Stanley? Recently came across this role for Finance division at MS and it seems high but not sure if it means manager or it gives off an associate level vibe. It says Market risk controller so wonder if a manager at a different firm going into MS would be considered lower level there.

Analyst, associate, vice president, director, managing director is the title structure at banks.
Director is relatively senior.
Investment bank titles are what ED 1 said. Commercial and retail bank titles are usually the same but some use analyst, manager, director, exec director, VP, SVP, EVP instead. So yes, director is relatively senior in banking in general.
Controller is a job function, like IT manager or risk officer. At a huge organization like Morgan Stanley, the titles for those roles depend on how big or important the division is, e.g. a compliance officer with only 2 direct reports probably isn't a director.
Director in Finance is roughly an AVP (so non-officer role). So below VP. It’s confusing for those not familiar with Finance in MS.
Director is AVP.
Executive Director and Managing Director come after VP.
Very strange titles
In addition to the above comment, director and above is when you start eating what you kill, especially in front office gigs
