It's great if you want to work with a bunch of people that got cut in finals rounds at Deloitte
People are some of the nicest, smartest, most genuine people I’ve ever met. You work a lot of hours and are expected to do a lot (biggest downside by far). You also then learn a tremendous amount in a short time period. You get headhunters constantly pinging you. Maybe 1/1000 people (at the BA or associate level at least) come in contact with projects people on this app love talking about (all the NYT hit pieces lol), and it never crosses my mind on a daily basis that the work I am doing is having a negative impact on the world. In fact I’ve done far far more/have seen more of my colleagues here doing awesome pro bono or social sector work that makes me proud to work here - and yes, is actually beneficial to society and helping millions of people. Yes it’s true we have made mistakes and have had bad apples have lapses in judgment. But it’s really not a reality that we are full of bad people doing bad things all the time just for money. I have only ever worked with incredibly genuine, smart, and caring people doing some pretty cool stuff. So it does pain me to hear all that noise...I guess it comes with the territory though, so I get it :)
@pwc1 sure!
Well it’s a real thrill when you overthrow your first governmental regime. But you just keep chasing that first high and it’s never the same....
Its nice to know that at the end of the day your work is making a negative impact to the world, but your client is making $$$ so who cares.
I hear you get paid like twice a month and they have these things called “bosses” you report to.
Actually, I don’t believe they have a traditional boss or Relationship Partner
Agree with mck 3. Been here a while and like it. There are things I don’t like but I doubt they’re any different at most consulting firms.
Can you elaborate on that please?
Working at McKinsey is cool on the whole.
Most of the people who I work with are nice and thoughtful. All of them are smart and diligent.
Most of the projects I’ve worked on have tough hours. All of them have been impactful to the client and meaningful.
Most people I talk to don’t plan to stay here for their whole career. All of them, I imagine, will be better off for having been here.
Benefits and pay are pretty great.
