Mentor
The biggest ones tend to be around how someone works with others:
– Not listening or interrupting
– Blaming others instead of owning mistakes
– Rigid thinking (“there’s only one right way”)
– Low curiosity about the team or role
A lot of “culture fit” is really “how will this person show up day-to-day,” not personality.
I agree with this. I hate when I interview someone and they don't even let me finish a question before they start speaking. Also, someone who you can tell thinks they know everything and isn't going to take direction well is another big one.
A common issue I've heard about is having people who come off too much like "solo heroes." It's important to bring on people who can work well in teams. And if someone says "I" much more than "we," that can be read as a bad sign.

@E1 It really depends on the role. If youre going into engineering management that could be the case of "we". However, as an IC in engineering, youre gonna have to solo a lot of the complex scenarios, hence senior to director IC roles.

Usually that person is already eyeing a promotion when they haven't even started the role they were hired to do. I tend to prefer new college grad or under 3 years experience but HR restrictions can heavily influence for targeting 10+ years experience
These are the hardest hires.
