Phil Night has probably one of the highest salaries for someone that went to industry and is not a partner per your specification

Associate - Your question is not formulated in a way that will get you any useful responses. There are too many variables that are involved making an overall industry average useless for most purposes. What good is it if I tell you the average salary cap for a CPA in a HCOL is $120,000... but the actual range that make up the average is as low at $48,000 and as high as $350,000? Help us help you.

M1: I agree that $120k is helpful because that’s probably what you can expect as a max as an individual contributor with significant experience. Once you get past individual contributor it’s really hard to say.

What do you mean where does an average salary cap out? By definition you can have a salary higher than some average.

The band is so wide it wouldn’t be helpful. Is this person in public accounting or an accountant in industry? How many years of experience?

Generally for the average accountant who’s been through public who either transitioned to industry or to high enough position but not partner

Okay—I’m assuming you mean someone with average ambition and average performance as well. In those cases most people who leave at senior stay at senior. You’re looking at 95-110k. Obviously not everyone does, but the person who is a senior accountant for 30 years and then retires is a thing.

It’s pretty common. Get a family. Realize that $95k is significantly above median household income and you’re completely comfortable. You’re an average performer who doesn’t care about titles or managing people. You don’t want the stress of manager and above. Stay at senior for 30 years and make more than most two partner households put together.

Can you ask a relevant non confusing question? That's why you got so many mixed responses.

Hi fishes - I’m with an MBB as a 2y Partner looking to move to B4, for a bunch of reasons. In active conversations with two of them. While compensation levels seem similar for now, the other posts on this bowl suggest we end up making more at B4 than MBB. (Referring to the 1.5M number of a y4 partner at b4). What is the real trajectory that people here have seen at B4? And how much of that is bonus - base - other components?

Does anyone else find it difficult to ask for time off? I haven’t taken a “vacation day” since February, billed 185+ hour months consistently through the pandemic (exceeded hours for 2020 bonus eligibility), and am feeling pretty burnt out. It’s hard because other associates in my department haven’t really taken any time off either (or it has been a day or two sporadically). Would really love to take some days over Christmas to recharge but I’m nervous about perception.

I am due to take 2 weeks parental leave sometime in the next month and have an offer lined up. Is it better to tell the new place I would prefer to push my start date to take my leave and join two weeks after (accounting for 2 weeks of notice when I get back)? Would that be burning a bridge with current firm (taking leave and giving notice as soon as I am back)? I want to avoid losing 2 weeks of salary during that time if I can.

Health question: Does anyone else suffer from nerve pain in their butt/hips from sitting all day? My research tells me it’s piriformis pain. It means my sit bones are irritating my butt muscle, which irritates my sciatic nerve. It can be excruciating and hurt even when I stand. I bought a fancy seat cushion for my office chair, and I have a standing desk. Nothing helps. The pain has been around for about a month. Anyone else?? What did you do?

I’d love some help thinking through this. I’m currently renting for $1600 base ($1800 total) and live in the least desirable part of town, and expect it to raise to about $2k/month. I was planning to buy my first property in the city and Airbnb part of it, but it will take me about a year to save up the cash (~$500k starting). Eventual goal is to move more rural but trying to build to FI. I found a property in my ideal dream location for $280k but it needs work, and can’t Airbnb it. Continued
