Dang. M&A tax makes good money. More than most accounting roles.
At what level? Manager probably tops out at 200k base for a jd/llm background in HCOL (plus can definitely get a 10% bonus on top of that). Senior manager can get up to $300k base (plus up to another 15% VC). That top range would be for someone who is practically an MD though.
Bonuses especially at the SM level become more and more heavily book/revenue driven.
What can a non JD make at M/SM? HCOL not NY/SF
Much less of a difference at the M/SM level. You should probably be in line for $150-155 as an M1 and 170-175 as a M2.
For what it’s worth - 15% is a high bonus for a SA (probably 95%ile) so I wouldn’t expect much of a pickup at M level. Same thing happened to me (was in the low teens at the SA levels and didn’t change at M).
Whether it’s worth it to stay is up to you. I left eventually (but made SM in public and spent some time there) and now have an in house role. Total comp is ~250k and reasonable hours.
M&A tax at publicly traded company.
