What length of vacation do you usually take? I’m a big fan of taking many 4 day weekends (instead of 1 or 2 longer vacays) but apparently those aren’t encouraged in the Big Law world?

I take at least one 2-weeks vacation and random long weekends throughout the year.

Longer vacations (that you put on the calendar well in advance) are preferred because it allows staffers to plan around it and/or find cover for you. It’s much easier to just take you out of the work stream for 2 weeks than it is to accommodate for you being out for two business days.

I do long weekends but plan on adding 2 weeks next year. I find no one even notices two days and I’m still on top of everything so never need coverage.

I do a couple of one-weekers and then either a 2-weeker or a couple of 9-10 day vacas. I’ve only done one 2-weeker though (I’m a third year) and I turned into a different person and was depressed for about a month and a half after I came back, so am reluctant to do anything longer than a week now...

My firm frowns upon long weekends as there is often weekend work and you are expected to “be available” over the weekend. Your team will also get severely annoyed if you are constantly taking weekends off.

I want to ruin their vacation. What else can I do?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

Hi, weird question for this forum, so I apologize. I’m trying to be creative here and use the tv stand that I have. The issue is that it has an open back so you can see all my tv wires. I can’t hide the wires because my building won’t let me open the wall. My idea was to slip a tile sheet that is wall behind the tv stand as a back, but I need the tile cut to the specific heigh and width of the tv stand. Does anyone know where I can take this tile sheet to get cut to the specific measurements?
