I think because we are so analytical and logical we can be socially awkward or come off as condescending. Working on soft skills like communication can help with that. I don't think we mean to come off the way we do but when you're working on perfecting something for 40 hours a week it can affect you.
👆 This. Soft skills, full not blunt and direct to the point communication is the things that divide the engineers from the engineering managers and directors. Being blunt and straight to the point is a solid skill when it's called for but is a double-edged sword when it's unwarranted and hurts you more than helps. The biggest thing engineers can learn is to reed the atmosphere and know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. You aren't drafting blueprints to your life....
