Roughly the same range on average, with a lot more variance for MDs. MBB partners almost all gonna be 1-5m depending on tenure and responsibility, BB and EB MDs can range from under 1m in bad years to astronomical amounts that are not possible anywhere in consulting.

That just made me do a little snort-laugh. :)
Pro
MD. Partner (assuming you mean consulting partner) would certainly be a more sustainable lifestyle, and probably a bit easier to make partner than MD
What does an MD at a bank make? Base vs TC
Partner is above an MD at Investment Banks
Pro
Many IBs (esp. top tier) don’t have partners since they’re public, instead they have ED and MD where ED < MD
MD range is much broader. You can be making 700k - 7 Mn. Consulting you will be largely range bound
Having been both, MD has a limited life span before it costs you your sanity/marriage/health etc. It pays well but zero WLB.
Now as a B4 Partner I earn as much. Have an amazing WLB. Rarely if ever work weekends, arrange my diary to have most Friday afternoons off. Etc.
Very few of any IB MD’s work less and have a good WLB. Once you are there you have to prove yourself every single year. It’s not like the B4 where you can have an off year and get away with it.
Pro
An MD in investment banking could make you like $1-3 M per year so definitely MD
That is the same for Kearney. MDs in great years can make more
Median BB/EB IBD MD earns more than median MBB/T2 consulting partner. But it is even more of a slog.
MD at a bank but the longevity probability is not nearly as favorable
Robbing the bank.
Joking. Kind of, not really.
Pro
Whichever one is an equity position
No. MDs in IB generally make more than consulting partners, though a lot is in deferred compensation
Probably whatever has more favorable tax consequences
Either way your personal life is screwed.
I thought it depended on the company structure (and I don’t mean an industry here..). Typically firm structure that supports both Partner and MD positions, the Partner may be making more if they have equity. Where as a MD will never own equity. So going by that I thought most likely partners make more.
In that case, appreciate for correcting me..
