What strategies have worked best for you in retaining long-term clients, especially in competitive markets? I recently lost a client to a competitor offering a slightly lower rate, even though we’d worked together for three years and had a great relationship. It made me realize that strong rapport isn’t always enough. I’ve started focusing more on proactive value—regular strategy check-ins, sharing industry insights, and helping clients justify our services internally—but I know there’s more I could be doing. What’s worked for you? How do you keep clients loyal when competitors are constantly knocking?

Loyalty is a myth in this economy. Clients will leave over a 5% price cut or some new shiny competitor. Your best bet? Assume every client is a flight risk and constantly remind them why staying with you is the least risky option. Stay proactive, not reactive.

These days, it’s all about saving a few dollars. It’s sad but I’m seeing it a lot.

I have to agree. It used to be all about the relationship and loyalty. Now everyone’s trying to save a buck wherever they can.

For people with Non-technical backgrounds who are now Product managers in the Tech industry, what kind of resources did you use to prep for your interviews? I've had people recommend brushing up on cracking the PM code but there's SO MUCH information out there and it's hard to figure out if I'm looking at the right thing or not. I was contacted by Recruitment agency; they created my profile in iBegin; later nothing happened! Now I couldn't apply to any positions in TCS. Can someone advise what to do next? Looking for HELP! My last working day in HCL is 8-April. I work as Scrum Master.

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

Two weeks ago I attended an interview in person and they promised to let me know whether or not I’d be hired for the position. Later, I learned through LinkedIn that a friend of mine got the job. The agency never contacted me to let me know anything. Should I be mad?

Who else started with small businesses and moved up to medium and large at agencies structured to handle it? I handle 40 clients and some 60 Content managers, ad managers, designers, developers, and a smattering of other positions.

Which was better? I have almost complete autonomy over what happens with small biz, but getting to focus on projects for more than an hour/month sounds nice.

What are some good practices during the sales phase of a potential project to execute before the contract is signed? Seems obvious but would love some ideas on standard operating procedures that help with seamlessly handing over a signed contract to the account team. For example, speaking to the potential client explicitly about their role in staying on schedule, reviewing scope creep consequences, etc.
